Jordan

Tatiana’s absence was pure relief. The scent of her had been driving him wild, and ignoring it had been an exercise in pure frustration and willpower.

By the time Zadia finished bandaging him, Cora and Trace had come into the room to watch them. With a pinched expression, as if she was trying to hide her mistrust, Zadia helped Jordan to his feet.

He wasn’t fully healed; he could feel that. Lying on his back had been easier than standing. At least he wasn’t as bad off as he had been. Parts of him still ached, but it was tolerable, and the shakiness faded after a moment. He looked at Cora and Trace questioningly.

The female Alpha gave him a thin smile.

“With Malachi tending to Tatiana, Trace and I will help you get to the Wastelands and make sure some of the Warguard see you.”

Jordan nodded his understanding, even as his brow crinkled.

“What?” Zadia asked, her voice harsh.

“It’s just…” Jordan shrugged one shoulder. He shouldn’t be surprised things were done differently here. “I know Malachi wanted to be here.”

“He did, but none of us would ever leave an Omega in the kind of pain that an unsatisfied heat brings. Tatiana’s needs come first. That’s why we have multiple Alphas here, to lean on each other.” Cora nodded at Zadia, who nodded back. Despite the fact Cora ruled her own territory and Zadia followed Malachi, the two of them were willing to work together to keep Tatiana from being in pain.

That was the biggest difference between them and Jeffos, Jordan realized. They would work together to help the weakest among them, whereas Jeffos had sometimes denied his Omegas an Alpha during their heat—if they’d displeased him or, occasionally, for his own entertainment, and sometimes, from pure indifference to their plight for there had been no Warguard that had impressed him enough to receive an Omega as a reward. He did not care that it was pure torture for the Omegas, as it did not affect him.

Nodding, Jordan felt his resolve grow again. He stood straighter, shoulders back. Malachi was the right Alpha to take over from his father. He would see Jeffos dead if it was the last thing he did, secure in the knowledge the territory would have a new, better leader.

“Let’s go.”
